On Sunday the 28th of February, two of Whites Hill State College students, Ethan and Sara represented WHSC at the Lions Youth Quest. The competition is nationwide and is open to school students from Year ten through to Year 12. Bill Dahl, the president of Camp Hill and Carindale Lions Club has been training the students to prepare for the public speaking component of the competition. There are three elements to the competition which aims to identify the future leaders of our community.
First, students undergo a formal interview with a panel of judges. Next, students deliver a prepared speech to a public audience. It is a credit to them, both Ethan and Sara presented moving and entertaining speeches. Ethan's speech on the importance of mental health awareness, was well received by the audience and was relevant and engaging. Sara spoke about the joy and the challenges of being a twin - her speech was thought provoking and very entertaining. As well as their prepared speeches, contestants had to respond to two impromptu questions. Once again, Ethan and Sara managed to respond well. I wish to congratulate them both for their participation and representation of our college. Well done Ethan and Sara!
