In 2023 Whites Hill State College is excited to be commencing the implementation of a program that aims to duplicate the program that has been successful at Tingalpa State School as well as establishing a viable Secondary pathway. This program is currently being developed in partnership with Tingalpa State School and AEFE.
2023 has seen the introduction of a French Bilingual Program at the college in Prep and Year 1. 2024 will see the Program expand to Year 2 and Year 7.
Students entering the Prep and Year 1 cohorts do not require any previous French, however students applying for the Year 7 program must either be
currently enrolled in a French program or pass a French proficiency exam.
French Bilingual Program - Ratio and subjects
Students work with two teachers: one teacher instructs in English on the 'English' day and the other instructs in French on the 'French' days.
Prep and Year 1 are both 80% (4 days) of French curriculum taught in French, 20% (1 day) Australian Curriculum taught in English and has bridges between curricula, languages and cultures.
The students in the bilingual class experience a harmonisation of the French National Curriculum from the BOEN (Bulletin Officiel de l'Education Nationale = French Education Official Instructions) with our Australian Curriculum. Assessments in French are aligned with the French requirements and assessments in English with the Australian Curriculum requirements. Families receive an Australian Report card, a French Livret Scolaire Unique is available on request. French trained, native French speaking teachers have been recruited to work alongside our Australian teachers on this innovative program. All teachers are also required to be registered with Queensland College of Teachers.
