1:1 Learning program

At Whites Hill State College we continually strive to enhance teaching and learning
to provide an environment for students that is relevant to their needs. To ensure that students succeed, teachers use a variety of resources and strategies to cater to the variety of student abilities within a class. Whites Hill State College acknowledges that in the 21st century, student learners should have access to 24/7 learning in a variety of mediums. Technology and devices can facilitate 'just in time' learning as well as provide for much broader, in depth engagement with the digital world in which we live.

In previous years, the federal government has provided substantial funding through the Digital Education Revolution (DER). One of the aims of this project was to increase the availability of devices in schools by providing over 110,000 devices in Queensland alone. Now that the DER has run its course, with the last devices issued at the end of 2013, it is the responsibility of individual schools to expand on the benefits of immersive use of technology in the educational setting.

1:1 Learning program in Senior Secondary

Whites Hill State College currently operates a 1:1 take home laptop program for students in Years 10, 11 and 12:

2015 Year 12 – National Secondary Schools Computer Fund (NSSCF) devices.

2015 Years 10 and 11 – College owned devices under a ‘Private Treaty’ arrangement with families.

1:1 Learning program in Junior Secondary – Bring Your Own (BYO) iPad device

In 2015, Whites Hill State College will offer a Bring Your Own (BYO) iPad device to all students in Junior Secondary (Years 7 to 9). This is, among other reasons, in response to the growing worldwide trend of corporate organisations and educational institutions to encourage the use of personally owned devices to increase productivity and engagement by allowing them to be connected to IT infrastructure. Further details can be found on the BYO iPad program pages.
