1:1 Learning program in Junior Secondary – Bring your own (BYO) iPad device
Whites Hill State College offers a BYO iPad program to all students in Junior Secondary (Years 7 to 9). The curriculum for students in these year levels will be supported by activities involving the use of iPad Apps. Our goal is for students to use iPads as a tool to support key processes in learning - accessing, organising, processing and publishing information, collaboration, creativity and communication - and for teachers to use them as an environment to facilitate deeper engagement in learning and higher-ordering thinking.
iPads allow:
the use of specific apps to support specific needs
self-paced and/or self-directed learning
engagement in learning a more diverse range of places
a wider range of ways to demonstrate learning.
Parents / care givers of students in Years 7 – 9 are asked supply an iPad (to the recommended specifications) as standard school equipment. Students are expected to have their iPad at College, charged and have sufficient space to save class work. Students are required to ensure that they at all times meet the College's Responsible Behaviour Plan, Acceptable Use of ICT Facilities and Devices Agreement and follow the direction of teachers.
When the iPad is not on campus, parents / carer givers will need to support their children in the device's use and care. While connected to the College Wi-Fi network internet traffic is filtered by the Departments filtering system. iPads that access home and other out of school internet services may not include any internet filtering. Under the Bring Your Own (BYO) iPad device program parents / care givers are responsible for any damage that may come to BYO iPads.
